KAMPALA .
Two supporters of National Unity Platform(NUP) who were reportedly abducted by security operatives have resurfaced .
Michael Mpalanyi aka Infantry was abducted on March, 18 2025 from Matugga ,on the outskirts of Kampala City . He has been missing since. On Monday , Mpalanyi was reportedly dumped by his captors in an unknown location.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) NUP secretary general Lewis Rubongoya ,said Mpalanyi had told me that he was being detained incommunicado at Chieftaincy of Militaty Intelligence , Mbuya where he was subjected to many beatings.

“Like other comrades, he[Mpalanyi] was being interrogated about why he supports , how much he is paid to do what he does, what NUP plans to do in the next election, etc. Mpalanyi was released together with our other comrade Shakur Sentongo aka Gaza Media who was abducted on 5th March.”
“Gaza is currently admitted in hospital. He says he is in great pain following all these months of detention and torture. Most unfortunately, the judiciary failed these two men. We filed Habeas Corpus applications for both of them. Until they were released, the application for Ssentongo was pending ruling, while that of Mpalanyi had not been fixed,” he added
Since 2020 when Mr Kyagulanyi expressed interest to challenge Uganda’s strongman Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2021 presidential polls, several of his supporters have been arrested or reported abducted by security operatives.
Many resurfaced in the General Court Martial where they were charged and remanded on different offences, others were found abandoned on the roads or near their homes.
About 18 NUP supporters are still reported missing and their whereabouts are unknown years after their disappearance.
