Hundreds of Christian faithful have gathered at Rubaga Cathedral to take part in the ecumenical public Way of the Cross, a significant spiritual observance marking the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

The procession is being led by the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere, who arrived at the cathedral earlier to preside over the prayers and reflections. The faithful, drawn largely from the Catholic community, began the solemn journey in remembrance of Christ’s path to crucifixion.

The annual Way of the Cross brings together believers from different Christian denominations, emphasizing unity in faith during the Lenten season. After prayers at Rubaga, participants are expected to proceed in procession through the city, culminating in a joint prayer service at Old Kampala Playground.
Clergy from various churches, political leaders, and lay faithful are participating in the event. Among those present is the State Minister for Kampala, Kabuye Kyofatogabye, alongside the Kalungu East legislator, who joined other leaders in carrying the cross during the procession as a symbol of shared faith and humility.

The procession will conclude at the Old Kampala Secondary School Playground grounds, where members of the Joint Christian Council are expected to gather for a united prayer service.
The ecumenical Way of the Cross continues to stand as a powerful demonstration of Christian unity in Uganda, drawing believers together in prayer, reflection, and a shared commitment to the teachings of Christ.

This year’s Way of the Cross in the Kampala metropolitan area highlighted the importance of commemorating the life & times of Jesus Christ by promoting peace, love, and sacrifice.
