Faithful Urged to Shun Betrayal and Renew Trust in God as Nabbingo Parish Celebrates Palm Sunday

Christians at St. Augustine Sub-Parish, Bataka, gathered in large numbers to mark Palm Sunday, with a strong message centered on faithfulness, trust, and commitment to God.

While leading the celebrations, Rev. Fr. Dr. Ambrose Bwangato, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Visitation Nabbingo, called on believers to distance themselves from acts of betrayal, noting that many people today suffer disappointment at the hands of those they trust most.

He reminded the congregation of Judas Iscariot’s betrayal of Jesus Christ, which ultimately led to His crucifixion, urging Christians to reflect deeply on their actions and relationships.

“This season reminds us to turn away from wrongdoing. Betrayal destroys relationships and weakens our faith. As Christians, we must remain true, trustworthy, and committed to what is right,” Rev. Fr. Dr. Bwangato emphasized.

He also reflected on Simon Peter’s denial of Jesus, describing it as a lesson on the importance of keeping one’s promises and remaining steadfast in faith, even in difficult moments.

“Peter had promised loyalty but failed. However, when he realized his mistake, he wept bitterly. This teaches us the value of trust and repentance. We should never take lightly the trust others place in us,” he added.

Rev. Fr. Bwangato encouraged Christians to strengthen their trust in God, especially during the Holy Week, and to use the period for reflection, repentance, and spiritual renewal.

Adding her voice, the Sub-Parish Catechist, Ms. Betty Namirembe, urged Christians to remain consistent in attending Sunday Mass, rather than only turning up during major celebrations.

“Faith should be practiced every day, not just on special occasions. Let us remain committed to God throughout the year,” she said.

She also encouraged acts of charity, calling on believers to support the needy and give generously to the Church during the Holy Week.

The Caritas leader from Nabbingo Parish, Mr. Kivumbi, appealed to Christians to contribute towards Caritas, highlighting its role in supporting vulnerable communities.

“Caritas funds have previously supported victims of disasters such as landslides. Your contribution can help save lives and restore hope,” he noted.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Laity at St. Augustine Bataka, Mr. Kakooza, appreciated the faithful for turning up in large numbers and urged them to return their Easter offering envelopes in time.

“We encourage all Christians to bring back their Easter envelopes and to instill a culture of giving in children. Teaching them generosity from a young age builds a strong and faithful Church,” he said.

As Christians waved palm branches to commemorate Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the overarching message remained clear—Palm Sunday is not just a celebration, but a call to humility, faithfulness, and a renewed commitment to God and one another.
