Fire guts home of late Ssemogerere’s Lubaga home


KAMPALA.

Police in Kampala are investigating an inferno that gutted the residence of the late Democratic Party President, Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere in Lubaga, a Kampala suburb.
The fire broke out Friday afternoon and spread rapidly, despite efforts by neighbours and police fire brigade to put it out .


“We heard a loud bang and a few minutes later , we saw dark smoke coming out of the roof,” Margaret Namaganda a neighbour, said
Another neighbour Joseph Kalema, said they did what was within their means to ensure that the fire doesn’t spread to other areas . “We grabbed buckets, basins—anything—to help, but the fire was too strong.”


Fortunately , no injuries were reported.
Dr. Ssemogerere, who died in 2022 at age 90, was a towering figure in Uganda’s politics. He led the country’s oldest political party – Democratic Party for over two decades and served in various cabinet positions .
