At least five members of the same family have died in a car crash in Buyende District .
The tragedy happened after the car they were travelling in crashed in a swamp that flows into Lake Kyoga along the Kaliro-Irundu road .
Police in the Eastern District of Buyende have identified the deceased as Masudi Sebuliba, 32; Ayubu Mua, 29; and Ben Ndikola, 24- all residents of Kaliro Town Council.
Others are; Wilberforce Wamuseke, 31, a resident of Gumpi in Buyende, and Evelyn Kyalisima, 25, from Lyantonde District.
The victims were travelling in a Toyota Harrier registration number UBD 160F when the tragedy struck .
According to Mr Michael Kasadha, the Busoga North police spokesperson, the vehicle was travelling from Iyingo Landing site to Irundu with all occupants allegedly drunk.
Mr Kasadha said the driver lost control, and the vehicle plunged into the water, instantly killing all the occupants.
“The scene was visited by traffic police officers, and the bodies were examined. The motor vehicle was towed to Kagulu police station pending further police inspection,’’ Mr Kasadha said.
Mr Kasadha warned of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, urging drivers to avoid such reckless behaviour to prevent such crashes.
“We strongly advise members of the public not to drive after alcohol consumption. This practice endangers the driver, other occupants, and all road users,’’ he said.
