Former Senior Police officer Agasiirwe remandedto Luzira over Joan Kagezi murder


The former commandant of the Police Special Operations Unit Senior Superintendent of Police Nickson Agasiirwe has been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of murder.
He is accused of murdering Senior State Prosecutor, Joan Kagezi, in March 2015.


Agasiirwe was not allowed to take a plea because the Chief Magistrate’s Court does not have jurisdiction to hear capital offences such as murder cases. He has been remanded to Luzira Upper Prison until July 8, 2025.


Agasiirwe , an erstwhile right-hand man of former Inspector of Police Gen Kale Kayihura,was arrested on May 22 ,2025 .

His arrest followed testimony by a key prosecution witness, Daniel Kiwanuka Kisekka, a UPDF deserter who told the International Crimes Division of the High Court on May 21 that a man he identified as “Nick” ordered Kagezi’s killing.
