
Fort Portal City burst into colour and motion on Saturday, July 19, as thousands of runners and fitness enthusiasts took to the streets for the 2025 Fort Portal City Marathon.
The event not only celebrated endurance and wellness but also highlighted the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
Participants competed in 5km, 10km, 21km, and 42km race categories, traversing routes that wound through scenic crater lakes, tea plantations, and iconic Tooro landmarks like the Karuzika Palace and the Amabeere ga Nyinamwiru caves.
This turned the marathon into more than just a race it was a captivating experience of sport and scenery.
Adding a touch of royal elegance to the occasion was the presence of His Majesty King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV
Omukama of Tooro, who was warmly received by the crowd. His attendance symbolized cultural pride and added depth to the day’s celebrations.
Beyond the finish line, the event also served as a strategic build-up to the 2025 Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, slated for August 23 in Kasese.
The Tusker Lite team actively engaged with attendees using the Fort Portal event to raise awareness and encourage sign-ups for the Kasese race Uganda’s only World Athletics certified marathon.
“The vibe here in Fort Portal is incredible,” said Denise Paula Nazzinda, brand Manager for Tusker Lite at Uganda Breweries Limited.
“But we are just getting started. In Kasese, we are expecting thousands more, with breathtaking trails at the foot of the Rwenzori’s and a celebration that blends sport, lifestyle, and adventure like never before.”
Tusker Lite’s involvement underscored its continued commitment to building a vibrant and active community through sports and cultural events.
Runners expressed excitement for the upcoming Rwenzori marathon, drawn by its dramatic landscapes and growing reputation across borders.
With nearly 6,000 runners expected to participate, this year’s Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is shaping up to be the biggest and boldest yet an unforgettable highlight on Uganda’s sporting calendar.
