FUFA Big League Unveils New Trophy as Season Finale Looms

Kampala, Uganda.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has unveiled a striking new trophy for the FUFA Big League, days before the season’s thrilling finale on Saturday, June 21. Inspired by Uganda’s natural heritage and the league’s fierce spirit, the trophy is set to become a coveted symbol of triumph for teams battling for promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

Crafted with deep symbolism, the trophy draws its design from the African buffalo, known for its power, tenacity, and unity—qualities that mirror the FUFA Big League. The standout feature is the handles, sculpted to resemble buffalo horns, embodying strength, defense, and solidarity. The central trunk connects the top bulb to a four-tier base, with each element paying tribute to the buffalo’s iconic features.

FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein hailed the trophy as a true reflection of the league’s competitive spirit. “This design captures the perseverance, unity, and strength of our clubs as they fight for glory. It’s more than a trophy—it’s a symbol of what the FUFA Big League stands for,” he said.

The unveiling comes as the race for promotion reaches fever pitch after Match Day 29. League leaders Calvary were held to a 0-0 draw by Onduparaka, while second-placed Buhimba United Saints suffered a 4-3 home loss to Kigezi HomeBoyz. Both teams are locked at 49 points, with Calvary holding the top spot due to the away goals rule in their head-to-head clashes with Buhimba.

With one match remaining, the battle for the three promotion slots is wide open. Buhimba holds an edge over third-placed teams like Blacks Power and Paidha Black Angels, but any mistake on the final day could be fatal. Meanwhile, four teams face relegation, adding to the drama of one of the most captivating FUFA Big League campaigns in recent years.

As the season hurtles toward its climax, the new trophy stands as a powerful reminder of what’s at stake. Will Calvary hold their nerve, or will Buhimba or another contender seize the moment? Football fans across Uganda are counting down to a finale that promises unforgettable moments.
