The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) convened a high-level closed-door meeting on Tuesday at Serena Hotel, bringing together Uganda Premier League (UPL) club executives to deliberate on a proposed overhaul of the league’s structure.
Presided over by FUFA President Moses Magogo, the session focused on a contentious proposal to shift the league from its traditional two-round format to a three-round system. The reform, aimed at increasing competitiveness and matchday revenue, has sparked mixed reactions across the football fraternity.
“It was a meeting of objective minds, but people were looking at things from different angles,” Magogo remarked, acknowledging the diversity of opinions that surfaced during the discussions.
This marks FUFA’s latest attempt to build consensus around the reform, following previous consultations that ended without a clear resolution. While the proposal remains active, insiders suggest that its fate hangs in the balance, with support and opposition currently split.
Club representatives reportedly raised concerns about fixture congestion, player welfare, and logistical costs, while others welcomed the idea as a potential boost to fan engagement and commercial opportunities.
Despite the lack of a definitive outcome, FUFA officials remain optimistic that continued dialogue could pave the way for a unified decision ahead of the next season.
