
KIRYANDONGO. President Kaguta Museveni has mourned the victims of the fatal motor crash that claimed over 40 lives along the Kampala–Gulu Highway on Wednesday morning.
The president directed immediate cash assistance to the bereaved families to enable them prepare burial arrangements .
In a condolence statement issued from State House just a few hours after the tragedy , the President expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and announced a directive for financial support through the State House Comptroller — Shs 5 million to each bereaved family and Shs 1 million to the injured.
“I have learnt with sadness about the tragic accident that occurred this morning along the Kampala–Gulu Highway, claiming many lives. I extend my condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a quick recovery,” President Museveni wrote in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.
He urged all road users to exercise “utmost caution” to prevent such tragedies, attributing the crash to reckless overtaking and avoidable human error.

The President’s message follows an official police report confirming that 46 people died in the midnight crash involving two passenger buses, a lorry, and a Toyota Surf at Kitaleba Village near Asili Farm in Kiryandongo District.
