Mufti Mubaje Urges Faithful to Honor Parents and Prepare for the Afterlife

His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, arrived in the country from South Sudan on Saturday evening after concluding his official visit with a courtesy call to the 1st Vice President, H.E. Riak Machar Tenyi.
On Sunday afternoon, February 2nd, 2025, Mufti Mubaje was the chief guest at the memorial prayers (Duwah) organized by the family of the late Haj Abdul-Wahab Rugasa, the former UMSC Administrative Secretary who passed away a few months ago. The event was held at their family residence in Ndejje Kibutika, Wakiso District.
In his heartwarming sermon, characterized by Holy Quranic verses and Prophetic hadiths (traditions), the Mufti implored the Muslim faithful present and those who would receive the message, to always prepare for death, which is predestined for humanity. “Always be God-conscious that you are departing this world any single minute and do remember to offer meritorious prayers that it could be the last before meeting your creator,” Sheikh Mubaje preached to a very attentive congregation.
Additionally, in the same sermon, Mufti Mubaje urged children to do good to their parents, especially when they reach old age. “Imagine someone organizes lavish birthday parties in posh hotels where he or she invites friends and they are seen enjoying themselves the entire evening, shamelessly while their parents in villages are not aware, grappling in poverty, and worst still, going to bed hungry,” he remarked. “So, whoever among you wants God’s blessings, be good to the parents and in turn, they will invoke supplications to God to shower you with divine grace.”
Lastly, he spoke highly of the late Haj Rugasa, describing him as a dedicated UMSC servant who left a rich legacy at the Council. Meanwhile, Hon. Sheikh Kassim Kaduyu, the UMSC General Assembly representative for Mbarara City, spoke on behalf of the family.
In attendance were His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, the 2nd Deputy Mufti; Sheikh Imran Ssali, Secretary for Religious Affairs; Sheikh Abdu- Karim Abdullah Katamba, Director of Halal/ the Ankole- Kigezi Regional Assistant to the Mufti, Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Kakungulu, former Director of Sharia; Sheikh Abdu-Wahid Rashid Nkalubo, Imam of the National Mosque; among others.
