Bridging the gap between the parent and the child can make a difference” said Birungi said while speaking to her fellow students in the wake of rampant drug abuse among Ugandan youths .

This comes at a time when many youths are losing their lives due to reckless lifestyles including use of illicit drugs .

Just last week a young university girl Martha Ahumuza ,23 died in a city bar Mezzo Noir and it’s suspected she was high on drugs.

She thanked parents, hers inclusive and teachers who make it a point to well advise their children on morals along side academics.
Most students in Uganda mostly abuse marijuana( cannabis) and alcohol.

Some students conceal alcohol packed in sachets. Students also use Kuber in schools . To ingest the drug discreetly, students normally place the sachet below their tongues . In some schools, security guards ,cooks and other staff members bring the drugs into the school premises and sell them to the students .

A roll of opium on average costs Shs2,000 and one can get fresh leaves of marijuana for as little as Shs500. It is reported that students take drugs mostly during the day because security is usually tight at night .

Several previous surveys reveal that students turn to drugs to stay awake for hours so that they can read long into the night .
