The Resident District Commissioner of Wakiso, Justine Mbabazi, has called on boda boda riders in the district to work together and avoid internal conflicts that could disrupt their business.

Speaking during a meeting with boda boda leaders at the Wakiso District headquarters on Monday, Mbabazi emphasized the importance of unity and discipline within their associations. She advised the riders to establish strong disciplinary committees to resolve misunderstandings swiftly and maintain harmony among members.

The meeting brought together various boda boda leaders from across the district, led by John Bosco Ssejembe, chairperson of the Wakiso District Boda Boda Riders Association. The leaders presented several challenges affecting their operations, notably rising insecurity and competition from operators based in neighboring Kampala.

Security concerns were highlighted as a pressing issue, with reports that several riders have lost their lives due to criminal incidents. In response, Mbabazi pledged to convene a security meeting involving Divisional Police Commanders (DPCs), the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), and the District Security Officer to identify crime-prone areas and strengthen protective measures.

She also assured the riders that discussions would be held with relevant authorities regarding concerns over Kampala-based riders operating in Wakiso, stressing her commitment to safeguarding opportunities for local operators.

Mbabazi commended the boda boda community for their support of President Yoweri Museveni in the recent general elections. She encouraged them to participate in government initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), noting that the group has already received sh100 million pledged by the President to support their activities.
