Kabale 7s Showdown: Series Glory or Final-Stop Drama?

Kabale, Uganda — The scenic hills of Kabale are set to host a seismic weekend in Ugandan rugby as the 2025 Nile Special Rugby Sevens Series inches toward a dramatic climax. With title hopes hanging in the balance, the Kabale 7s, scheduled for September 20–21 at Kabale Municipal Stadium, could either crown champions or set the stage for a nail-biting finale.

In both the men’s and women’s divisions, the top contenders are separated into alternate pools, creating a high-stakes path to the quarterfinals. Series leaders Walukuba Barbarians (men) and Thunderbirds (women) are poised to clash with their closest rivals Toyota Buffaloes and Avengers, respectively—if all teams survive the group stage gauntlet.

Women’s Pools – Kabale 7s 2025

  • Pool A: Nile Rapids, Avengers, Walukuba Titans, Buddu Cuppaz*
  • Pool B: Thunderbirds, She Wolves, Black Pearls, Kigezi Queens*

Men’s Pools – Kabale 7s 2025

  • Pool A: Walukuba Barbarians, Hippos, Gulu City Falcons, KIU Crows*
  • Pool B: Heathens, Elgon Wolves, Mongers, Kigezi Silverbacks*
  • Pool C: Pirates, Rams, Eagles, Tooro Lions*
  • Pool D: KOBs, Buffaloes, Rhinos, Buddu Bears*

With no “easy” pool in sight, every match counts. Walukuba currently hold a 12-point lead over Buffaloes, while Thunderbirds are 6 points clear of the Avengers. If the challengers stumble in Kabale, the series could be mathematically sealed. But if the leaders falter, the final stop next weekend will become a winner-takes-all showdown.

This marks Kabale’s second-ever hosting of the men’s series (last held in 2021, won by Pirates) and the first time the women’s teams will compete in the region—adding historical weight to an already electric weekend.
