Katikkiro Mayiga Rallies Kabaka’s Subjects to Choose Leaders Loyal to Buganda’s Cause

Buganda’s Premier, Charles Peter Mayiga  has urged the people of Buganda to elect leaders in the forthcoming 2026 general elections who will safeguard and promote the kingdom’s interests.

This message was delivered  through the Second Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Mayiga. He said Buganda needs leaders whose decisions in public office reflect loyalty to the Kabaka and commitment to the kingdom’s social and economic priorities. He was speaking as different counties under the kingdom presented their annual contributions towards Buganda’s development agenda at Bulange Mengo.

The Katikkiro reminded his audience that while Uganda’s elections are conducted on a national scale, every vote from Buganda carries an opportunity to shape how the region’s values and aspirations are represented. He called on subjects to be vigilant in choosing candidates who will advance education, health, culture, and prosperity, rather than those driven by personal ambition or external political manipulation.

“Our people must support men and women whose service uplifts communities and preserves the dignity of Buganda. Leadership should defend not undermine our heritage,” he emphasized.

Mayiga also urged politicians and citizens alike to conduct peaceful campaigns free from violence and insults, stressing that democracy must be exercised in a manner that strengthens national unity. He reminded aspirants that leadership is a responsibility entrusted by the people, not a competition for power.

His message comes at a time when the kingdom is intensifying its development and cultural renewal programs, including youth skilling, education sponsorship and agricultural investment across Buganda’s counties. The Katikkiro said that such progress can only be sustained if leaders at every level respect and cooperate with cultural institutions.

As the countdown to 2026 begins, the Buganda administration has pledged to continue sensitizing citizens on civic participation, emphasizing that voting wisely remains one of the most powerful tools to defend the kingdom’s future.
