Katikkiro Mayiga Urges Schools to Promote Culture and Values

By Nasser Kayanja
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on education institutions within the kingdom to place greater emphasis on teaching culture and traditions as a way of preserving Buganda’s heritage.

Mayiga made the remarks while meeting representatives from various kingdom-based schools during a courtesy visit at Bulange. During the visit, the schools collectively contributed over Shs90 million towards the Luwalo Lwaffe initiative, a community-driven development program.

He commended the reign of Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for its continued support of education both within Buganda and across Uganda. However, he urged school administrators to go beyond academics and integrate cultural values, practical skills, and technology into their learning systems.

In addition, Mayiga encouraged school leaders to promote cleanliness and hygiene, not only within schools but also in the communities where learners come from, emphasizing the importance of responsible citizenship.
