KCB, FMU Extend Alliance as Gulu Prepares for Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally

KCB Bank Uganda and the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) have reaffirmed their partnership ahead of the highly anticipated Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally, set for 9–11 October in Gulu.

The announcement,  made at a stakeholder event in Naguru was attended by motorsport drivers, fans, and officials, marking another milestone in the collaboration between the bank and Uganda’s governing motorsport body.

Speaking at the launch, Sheila Awori, Acting Head of Communication and Marketing at KCB Bank Uganda, described motorsport as a driver of economic activity and youth empowerment. She explained that KCB’s sponsorship is intended not only to grow the sport but also to boost tourism and provide opportunities for emerging talent.

“Motorsport is more than a sport; it reflects Uganda’s energy and resilience. By supporting it, we are empowering young drivers, supporting local businesses, and giving fans unforgettable experiences,” Awori said.

FMU’s General Secretary, Reynolds Kibira, welcomed the extended partnership and emphasised the federation’s commitment to safety as the Gulu rally approaches. He urged organisers, participants, and spectators to adhere to safety protocols, noting that the event carries both a competitive spirit and commemorative significance.

“The Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally is not only about competition but also about celebrating the vision of a man whose passion uplifted motorsport in Uganda,” Kibira said.

The memorial rally honours Rajiv Ruparelia, remembered for his strong contribution to rallying and youth involvement in sport. The Gulu event is expected to attract leading drivers on the National Rally Championship (NRC) circuit, alongside new talent eager to showcase their skill.

KCB’s continued support has already featured in this year’s NRC calendar, with sponsorship of the Pearl of Africa Rally, the Bugerere Stabex EMC Rally, and the Fort Portal Rally. The Gulu rally now promises to be another highlight, drawing thousands of fans and boosting the local economy.

With the renewed partnership in place, both KCB Bank and FMU signalled a shared vision to use motorsport as a platform for national pride, youth development, and community growth. The Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Rally is expected to combine thrilling competition with a fitting tribute, further cementing Uganda’s place on the East African motorsport map.
