Police in Kiboga, Central Uganda have recovered a gun believed to have been used in terrorising the area in the recent past before it was abandoned in the bush.
The rusted gun recovered from Temanakali A’ (Kituma) Village , Matangi Parish, Bukomero Sub County in Kiboga District was seen by a Ms Asha Baluka who reported the matter to the area chairperson who later alerted police.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that Baluka recovered the gun from a bush which she was clearing ahead of the planting season.
“ I saw something wrapped in a white sack as I was clearing the bush, on checking the sack, I realised it was a gun hidden in the sack , I informed the village chairperson who called the police to remove the gun” She explained
According to Ms Racheal Kawala , the Wamala regional police spokesperson , the recovered gun has two live ammunitions and it had rusted- an indication that it was abandoned in the bush for a long period .
She said police have however, not yet identified the serial numbers and type of the gun due to the rusting , but they are doing their best to get more details about the firearm.
“ The gun should have been hidden in the bush for a long time, the serial number has not been identified yet, we are making efforts to establish the source of the gun , type and other details , ” Ms Kawala said .
The recovered gun is currently at Kiboga Police Station as investigations into the matter goes on .
“We ask locals that could be with information that can help us with investigations to come forward .” she added
