Kiboga War veterans up in arms again over delayed compensation

More than 5,000 war veterans have raised complaints against the ruling National Resistance Movement government over delayed fulfillment of compensation promises, saying they have been abandoned and forgotten .

The veterans have been camping at Kitagenda Primary School in Rwamata Town Council, Kiboga District, since 2017.

They insist they will not leave until President Museveni compensates them for losses and destruction caused by the National Resistance Army (NRA) during the 1981–1986 bush war in the Luwero Triangle.

Speaking through their association, Patriotic Veterans Association – Kasejjere-Kigemuzi, which brings together veterans from the Singo region, the group expressed deep frustration with what they described as government neglect.

The association chairman, Tomusange Jagwe Ntindyebwa, said President Museveni began his war journey in their area and questioned why veterans from Singo are not prioritized for compensation.

“We have waited for 45 years. We are starving, helpless, and have received no assistance from the government,” Ntindyebwa said, calling on the president to urgently address their grievances.

Kiboga District hosts several memorial sites linked to the NRA war, including locations in Ddwaniro and Rwamata sub-counties.

The association’s General Secretary, Muwanga Nkalubo, revealed that the veterans have met President Museveni four times, during which he reportedly pledged Shs 66 billion, 40 iron sheets per veteran, and 30 bags of cement. However, Nkalubo said efforts to follow up with various government offices have yielded no results.

Liya Lwanyaaga, a son of one of the veterans, said it has now been eight years since the president made the compensation promise, but nothing has materialized. He appealed to the president to honor his pledge.

Another veteran, Prossy Nansikombi, described the group’s living conditions as miserable, saying many are starving. She urged the president to visit them and update them on the status of his pledges before leaving the region .Mr Museveni is currently campaigning in Buganda region and was on December 16 in Kiboga did no talk about their concerns
