Kiwanda , Odongtho, Singh among 38 NRM nominees for two EALA slots

A total of 38 candidates have been nominated for the by-election to East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), marking one of the largest nomination exercises in recent years.

‎The two EALA seats fell vacant after Denis Namara and Kakooza were elected to the 12th Parliament.

‎According to the list seen by Newzzone Publication , the NRM nominees feature a mix of political heavyweights, experienced lawmakers, and prominent public figures.

‎Among them are stalwarts such as Juliet Bashisha, Thomas Ainebyona, Davis Akampurira, Akol Vankar, Juliana Abonyo, Beatrice Karungi, Fred Rwakaizi, Emmanuel Buhaburwa, and Philemon Bwanga.

‎Others include James Byarugaba, Brownie Ebal, Enid Mirembe, Isaac Mukindwa, Josylyne Kamateneti, Elias Kamukama, and Steven Mutungi.

‎The list also features Robert Kati, Hood Kiribedda, Stella Kiryowa, Ronex Kisembo, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi , Briton Kiwanuka, Israel Kyarisima, Lauben Bwengye, Singh Katongole, and Ronald Musoke.

‎Aso making the cut are; Muhammad Mwesigye, Veron Nabwire, Winfred Namufumba, Aminah Lukanga, Charles Odongotho—a former NBS Television journalist—Phiona Rwandarugali, Godfrey Wanzira, Stephen Bujingo, John Kabeizire, Nobert Twizire, Hamuza Wadero, and Juma Witonze, highlighting the mix of experience and new talent.

‎The nominations follow the election of James Kakoza and Dennis Namara to Uganda’s Parliament, leaving the EALA seats vacant.

‎Parliament elects EALA members indirectly, with nine representatives ultimately chosen to ensure Uganda’s interests are represented at the regional level.

The process also aims to maintain gender balance and political diversity in accordance with Rule 9(1) of Appendix B of the Rules of Procedure for EALA elections.
