Lawyer subscribing to NUP still missing two days later

KAMPALA.

A lawyer subscribing to the Opposition, National Unity Platform (NUP) political party, Abed Nasser Mudyobole, has spent two days with his family ,friends not knowing his whereabouts.

Mudyobole, who is vying for Iganga Municipality Parliamentary seat , was allegedly abducted by heavily armed security operatives on Friday, May 16.

Like he usually does ,NUP Principal Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine rushed to his X (Twitter) and announced Mudyobole’s disappearance .

“Our comrade, Counsel Abed Nasser Mudiobole from Iganga, was abducted yesterday evening from Kyaliwajjala. Mudiobole who is an advocate was invited to meet a client and on reaching the premises, he was put on gunpoint by heavily armed men and driven away in a drone to an unknown location. Earlier in the day, he was at the

@NUP_Ug Headquarters alongside other leaders from Eastern Uganda where we discussed the upcoming youth elections. AGAIN, THESE CRIMES DO NOT PROJECT STRENGTH.

They project weakness and fear. Let us continue organising, mobilising and agitating for a better country. Grateful to Uganda Law Society for joining in the condemnation of these wanton crimes against humanity!,” he posted

The Uganda Law Society Vice President, Anthony Asiimwe, said in a statement on Saturday said they had asked police about Mudyobole’s whereabouts and they denied having him in their custody .

“According to family sources, Advocate Mudyobole (inset) was forcibly disappeared by heavily armed, drone-operating security operatives yesterday, at about 5:00pm, from Gold Rock Hotel, Kyaliwajjala, Kira municipality, Wakiso district, where he had gone to meet a client,” Asiimwe’s statement reads in part.

Mudyobole’s disappearance adds to the long list of NUP supporters who are allegedly abducted by security forces –some are later dropped off along highways after being tortured while are arraigned in courts of law on trumped charges . According to Mr Kyagulanyi all this intended to instill fear among the Opposition supporters across the country .

The Uganda Law Society asked lawyers to be vigilant.
“All advocates are urged to stay alert, be beware of your surroundings, and review your personal security plans. Report unscheduled travel to your family and colleagues. Support the ongoing efforts of the ULS Secretariat in tracing Advocate Mudyobole and other victims of enforced disappearance

Human rights lawyer Eron Kiiza posted on X saying “The disappearance of Comrade ABEDI NASSER MUDIOBOLE over his @NUP_Ug political affiliation is most unfortunate.

Comrade ABEDI NASSER MUDIOBOLE is an experienced lawyer, a member of @ug_lawsociety, and used to be a staunch @FDCOfficial1 supporter who has previously contested on the FDC ticket for the position of Iganga Municipality Member of @Parliament_Ug. He is now eyeing it on the NUP ticket and has attracted the wrath of those who have made a habit of harassing NUP supporters,” Kiiza posted on his X account.
