Hon. Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, earlier today in court raised strong objections to the manner and conduct of investigations into allegations against the legislator citing gross violation of the accused fundamental human rights and constitutional abuses.
Appearing before the Butambala Chief Magistrate for mention of the case, state prosecutors informed court that investigations had been expanded to include additional 24 individuals allegedly connected to the same matter.
The defence argued that Hon. Muwanga has never recorded any statement in regard to terrorism charges nor been informed of any specific offenses he is being accused beforehand thus the charges being read to him in court tantamount to an ambush and abuse of court processes.
Hon. Ssegona for defence further argued that cases of such seriousness require transparent, impartial, and professional investigations, adding that if the process was flawed as alleged, all evidence obtained should be rendered invalid.
The defense team urged the Chief Magistrate to discard the obtained evidence and order a fresh investigations which should be extended to the killings allegedly committed at the legislator’s home.
The matter was adjourned to 17th January, 2026 for further mention and ruling on the defence’s application.
