Lyantonde court grants bail to three NUP supporters

LYANTONDE . The Magistrates Court in Lyantonde District has granted bail to the three National Unity Platform supporters that were remanded last week for assault and stealing of a mobile phone.

Lyantonde Grade One Magistrate Ramathan Akiiki Wandera granted bail to three NUP supporters Nelson Ndyasiima, Azam Ayisiga and Hamid Kigozi who have been on remand on two counts of theft of a phone, and assault.

Prosecution alleges that the group and their colleagues who were granted bail last week, are said to have committed the offence on November 4, 2025, assaulted a police officer and stole a mobile phone while attending NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu rally in the area .

The magistrate granted bail to the trio after ordering them to pay cash Shs 100,000 and Shs150,000 and their sureties Shs 1.5 million non-cash. Their co-accused Mbayo Richard and Godfrey Kisitu who were released last week.

The state prosecutor Alice Aheyisibwe told court that investigations into the matter were still incomplete, asking court to adjourn the matter to another date.

The presiding magistrate Akiki accepted the prosecution’s prayer adjourning the matter to December 17 when the prosecution is expected to have completed investigations into the matter.
