Mayiga Urges Muslims to Learn Land Laws and Promote Dialogue

By Nasser Kayanja
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on members of the Muslim community—particularly those responsible for managing property—to familiarize themselves with land laws in order to prevent disputes.

While speaking during Eid prayers at Kibibi Main Mosque in Butambala, Mayiga emphasized that many land conflicts arise from limited knowledge about ownership and legal procedures. He noted that in some cases, individuals occupy or receive land without proper documentation, such as affidavits, which later leads to disagreements, especially after the original owners pass away. He encouraged custodians to seek clear legal understanding to safeguard property rights.

Mayiga also urged Muslims to reflect on the message of the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, which promotes dialogue, reconciliation, and responsible use of social media.

In addition, he appealed to the government to initiate reconciliation efforts aimed at easing tensions following the recent elections, stressing the importance of open dialogue in maintaining unity.
