MUKONO.
Police in Kampala Metropolitan have recovered Nathan Tuwandike, a 25-year-old student of Uganda Christian University (UCU), who went missing last week .
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, officers received information from members of the public on March 2, 2026 at about 2pm that the student had been seen roaming around Mukono Town.
Police responded immediately and safely recovered him.
“He is currently in safe custody as further assessments are being conducted,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police in a statement.
He thanked authorities thanked members of the public for their vigilance and cooperation, which they said greatly contributed to the positive outcome.
Separately, UCU confirmed that Tuwandike, who is pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing Sciences, had been found safe and reunited with his family.
“We are pleased to inform the university community and all UCU stakeholders that Nathan Tuwandike, a student pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing Sciences, has been found safe and sound. He has been successfully reunited with his family,” the university said in a statement.
The university extended gratitude to those who supported the search efforts, particularly the Uganda Police Force for what it described as timely and critical intervention.
It also urged students to continue looking out for one another “in the Christian spirit of being our brother’s and sister’s keeper.”
However, neither the Police nor the university statements explained what happened to Tuwandike or why he had been missing since Wednesday, February 25.
The absence of details has fueled questions within the student community, with some students calling on the university to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The Newzzone Publication Ltd has independently established that Tuwandike was facing mental health challenge.
Authorities say further details will be communicated in due course.
