Police in Kalungu District are investigating a double murder in which a 25-year-old man that killed a 60-year-old man was killed by a mob.
The shocking incident occurred at Kabuye Village, in Kalungu Rural sub County in Kalungu District when a yet to be identified 25-year-old man attacked Mzee Joel Misango,60 who was at his home with his two friends .
The suspect reportedly hit Mzee Misango with a big stick killing him on spot and injuring his colleagues.
According to locals, the suspect who was believed to battling a mental illness at the time of the incident appeared at Mzee Misango’s home almost half -naked . He reportedly emerged from the neighbouring village of Kakyumu in Kalungu Rural Sub county in Kalungu District.
Locals say they were attracted by alarms made by the deceased’s neighbours who started hunting the suspect who had hid in the nearby house.
Mr Acram Ddungu, one of the residents, says that a mob broke into the house where the suspect was hiding and clobbered him to death.
” He ran into hiding after the attack and since people had started gathering they pursued him and got him out of the room where he was hiding and beat him to death” he said
Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye condemned the incident saying police investigations into the double murder incident are ongoing.
“We are hunting down those who killed the suspect, whom they would have handed to police and face the law ,we are also investigating reports that the murder suspect was battling a mental disorder,” he said
