Residents of Kampiringisa Village in Kammengo Sub County , Mpigi District, are upbeat about a multibillion fertilizer factory being set up in the area .

According to Mr James Kijinji , the Muyira Village chairperson the $80m ( about Shs293.2billion) Intracom Fertilizers Factory Ltd, will spur development and create jobs for youth and women in the area.

‘’We thank government for choosing our area to host such a mega project. Already, we are seeing our area changing as graders are widening our road connecting to Kampala-Masaka highway,” he said in an interview on Friday

When launching the road works on Friday Junior Minister for Works and Transport ,Mr Musa Ecweru said government is going to first put standard murrum on the four-kilometre road and later tarmac it .

‘’ With a lot of development this factory is going to bring to this district , we found it imperative to make the road smooth so that we can attract more investments to the area ,” the minister said
According Mr Ecweru , 80 percent of Ugandans are doing agriculture as their a source of income but a big percentage of these can only afford 1.5 kgs to 2kgs of fertilizers to improve their soil fertility and crop yield against the recommended international fertilizers usage standard of 50kgs per acre.

“This factory will make use of the available cow dung as a source of raw material and help Ugandan improve on their productivity after accessing improved fertilizers from the factory. ” he said.

However, residents complained of erratic power supply in their area which they say currently affects businesses in the area .

“We want to appreciate the government for bringing such a bigger investment to our area , but we would wish to inform you that we have a power problem in our area .So, we ask you to bring another big transformer to help the area have enough power.” He said.

The factory is going to be constructed on part of Kampiringisa Remand Home land that government leased to the investor .
