MUKONO has secured Shs600 million to facilitate the completion of district administrative block which stalled 18 years ago .
Construction of the district headquarters located at Kauga in Mukono Central Division started in February 2000, but stalled at the ground floor in 2006.

In 2020, the district committed to Shs400 million from local revenue in four financial years to complete the project still this did not work .

According to Ms Elizabeth Namanda , the Mukono District Chief Administrative Officer , it is the increasing need for office spaces that has prompted them to complete the building.

“ The unfinished building had started having leaking roofs, bat infestation, and a lack of privacy, whereby district officials had to work in dilapidated and overcrowded office spaces,” she said in an interview on Wednesday

She revealed that part of the funding is coming from both the World Bank, under the infrastructure for service delivery [ISG] programme, and contributions from the central government.

“The Shs. 300 million is coming from the Ministry of Finance, and another Shs300million is a contribution from Ministry for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs.” She added
Savannah Engineering Company Limited is undertaking the construction works .

Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa ,the Mukono District chairperson applauded the central government for its timely intervention noting that the district has struggled for years to raise the funds to complete the building and failed .

“When all the floors are completed and full furnished, we will have enough space for both political and technical departments. This will help us save the money we have been spending on renting office space ,’ Bakaluba said
Upon completion, Herbert Lutwama ,the district engineer, they will install CCTV cameras, solar-powered lighting, and a 100,000-litre underground water tank.

‘These measures are intended to reduce the district’s utility costs. The building’s leaking roof will also be repaired as part of the renovation,” he says.
