President Yoweri Museveni and the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, are expected to grace the consecration of the 4th Bishop of Busoga Diocese, Rev. Grace Lubaale, Sunday at Kyabazinga Stadium in Jinja City.
The historic event follows the retirement of the outgoing Bishop, Rt. Rev. Paul Samson Naimanhye, who officially stepped down in October 2025 after serving the diocese for 10 years.
“We are ready for consecration, and all preparations are complete to ensure a successful ceremony,” Eng Dr Jimmy Muwuluke Zikusoka, Vice Chairperson of the Organising Committee, said.
According to the day’s programme, the day will begin with a congregation at 7:45 a.m., followed by a joint clergy procession at 8:30 a.m. The arrival of invited guests will follow, and the main consecration service will officially commence at 9:00 a.m.
“The main celebrant will be the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, and the service is expected to end at 1:00 p.m.,” Dr Zikusoka revealed.
Rev Grace Lubaale was announced as Bishop-elect by the House of Bishops in Namirembe in October, but the announcement was met with mixed reactions among some Christians in Jinja District and Jinja City.
Some members of the church expressed concern that Rev Lubaale was not well known within Busoga Diocese he has spent most of his time doing pastoral and academic work in Central Region . Despite this, it has been noted that the Bishop-elect is a native of Kamuli District, which lies within the Busoga sub-region.
The Busoga Diocese was first led by the late Dr. Cyprian Bamwoze, who served from 1972 until 1998. He was succeeded by Dr Michael Kyomya, who served from 2002 until his retirement in January 2016.
Bishop Paul Samson Naimanhye then assumed leadership in 2016 and retired in 2025, paving the way for the consecration of the fourth bishop.
