Multitudes of Muslim faithful from all walks of life thronged Muslims across the country for the first Friday (Jumah) congregational prayers in the holy month of Ramadan.
At Uganda National Mosque in Old Kampala , the prayers were led by Mufti Shana Mubajje .
The believers, donning their best attire, sat in rows on the floors of both the upper and lower levels of Uganda’s largest mosque while listening to a soul-captivating sermon delivered by Sheikh Imran Ssali, the UMSC Secretary for Religious Affairs.
Sheikh Ssali, while quoting several verses from the Holy Quran, emphasized the spiritual significance of the holy month of Ramadan. “Let us congratulate ourselves and glorify our Lord Allah for blessing and being generous to us by granting us the opportunity to be alive during this holy season,” he preached.

He added that fasting is not only about abstaining from eating or drinking during daytime, but goes beyond that to include guarding all five human senses, which must also be aligned with the spirit of fasting.
Sheikh Ssali also reminded the faithful to strive to practice special personal acts of worship that earn greater divine rewards. These include intensifying praise, making personal supplications to Allah at all times — whether at the workplace, while driving, or while cooking. “Let us not lose this opportunity to seek Allah’s forgiveness for our iniquities. Allah promises to answer our prayers whenever we return to Him.”
He further encouraged believers to frequently recite the Holy Quran, increase charitable support to the less privileged, strengthen unity within families and the wider community, promote peace and love among people, and instill religious values in the younger generation.
Shortly after prayers, the Mufti interacted with persons with special needs( the deaf) led by Abdu Musoke and through a sign language interpreter, Nasser Sebugwawo requested special consideration in UMSC activities. They appealed for an office to handle their affairs, representation on top UMSC committees, food support especially during Ramadan, scholarships and bursaries for their children, and Hajj opportunities to Makkah.

In his remarks, Mufti Mubajje expressed delight at meeting them and praised their commitment to practicing their faith. He responded positively, pledging to provide food packages early next week. He also promised to present their other requests to management for consideration — particularly the establishment of an office — with the rest to be addressed as opportunities arise.
Several Muslim leaders from different levels were also present at the prayers.
