Notorious robbery suspects targeting coffee dealers remanded

Two suspected members of a notorious robbery gang that has allegedly been terrorizing coffee traders in Greater Masaka sub region have been formally charged and remanded to Masaka Main Prison.
The suspects, Bruno Jjuuko, alleged ringleader of the gang, and his accomplice, Alex Lule, also known as “Dodo”, appeared before the Grade I Magistrate’s Court in Kyotera on Monday.


His Worship Ignatius Ategyeka charged the duo with aggravated robbery, a capital offense under Ugandan law. The suspects did not enter a plea during the preliminary hearing and were remanded until August 27, 2025, pending further investigations.
Ms Maureen Namusisi, the state prosecutor, told the court that more time was needed to collect and consolidate evidence, citing the complexity and gravity of the crimes under investigation. The magistrate agreed with the prosecution’s request and ordered the continued detention of the suspects.


The charges stem from a violent robbery that occurred on July 25, 2025, at Mazima Bugagga Coffee Factory in Kalisizo Town Council, Kyotera District. According to CCTV footage reviewed by police, five armed assailants stormed the factory and held the manager at gunpoint, escaping with over Shs100 million.


Police launched an extensive manhunt following the incident, culminating in a joint security operation on July 27 in Masaka City. During the operation, authorities arrested Bruno Jjuuko, who is believed to have led the gang that has been active since 2021.
