The opposition The National Unity Platform (NUP) has launched a fundraising drive to raise monies to facilitate its 2025/2026 presidential elections.
The party is targeting both local and foreign financiers who mean well for the party .
Mr Robert Kyagulanyi , the NUP’s principal said: “For the past few months, we had been receiving funding in accordance with the law. However, as you’re aware, a new law was recently passed clearly designed to target the National Unity Platform.”
“The regime knows that the money we receive from Parliament is not for personal luxury, but rather to empower our struggle to dismantle this corrupt and criminal system.”

Mr Kyagulanyi said the money they need will be used to empower citizens to take ownership of the democratic process and push back against what described as growing political repression. Kyagulanyi contributed Shs 10 million as part of the drive and by the end of the day the party had raised Shs50m.
Joel Ssenyonyi, Leader of the Opposition, said he is also going to contribute Shs10m towards the cause .
Others party stalwarts who have contributed money include Joyce Bagala (Shs 3 million), Erias Nalukoola (Shs 10 million), Allan Ssewanyana (Shs 15 million) and singer Nina Rose (Shs 5 million) among other contributions.

Part of the money ,according to Mr Ssenyonyi ,who also doubles as the party spokesperson says will be used to produce key campaign materials, including T-shirts, posters, billboards, and banners. Additionally, resources are being allocated for media outreach, such as television and radio advertisements, to boost public engagement and visibility.
Mobilization activities across various communities are also a top priority, ensuring that the campaign reaches grassroots supporters effectively. An estimated Shs9billion is needed from this campaign
