Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine musician –cum politician has been re-elected as National Unity Platform(NUP) President paving his way to challenge President Museveni for the second time in next year’s General Elections .
Kyagulanyi 43, sailed through unopposed during the party’s National Executive Committee conference at Kamwokya , the NUP Leadership Academy on the outskirts of Kampala .

Others retaining their positions on the party National Executive Committee include; NUP secretary general Lewis Rubongoya and party treasurer Benjamin Katana .Nakawa West legislator and party spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi also retains his position after defeating Makindye West legislator Allan Ssewanyana .
But Mr Fred Nyanzi and Mityana Municipality legislator Francis Zaake were unlucky as they lost the party chief mobiliser and national youth leader slots respectively . Former Forum for Democratic Change activist Habib Buwembo was elected as NUP chief mobiliser replacing Nyanzi while Frank Kabuye ,the Kassanda South legislator replaces Zaake .

The NEC transition is key to re-energizing NUP structures ahead of party grassroots primaries and national campaigns.
The National Unity Platform, formerly the National Unity, Reconciliation and Development Party, emerged on Uganda’s political scene in the lead up to the 2021 General Elections .
The NUP was led by Moses Nkonge Kibalama from December 2004 until July 2020 when he handed it over to Robert Kyagulanyi . The party currently has 56 MPs in Parliament ,making history as the first opposition political party to make this feat during President Museveni four- decade rule .
