More than 130 newly qualified lawyers have been formally admitted to practise before Uganda’s High Court and subordinate courts .
This was during a ceremony at the Judiciary Headquarters at The Square in Kampala.
The event, organised by the Uganda Law Society (ULS), marked a key milestone in the professional journeys of the new Advocates.
The ceremony was presided over by the Acting Chief Registrar and representatives of the Law Council, with ULS Secretary Ssali Babu standing in for President Isaac Ssemakadde and the Governing Council.
Babu congratulated the new Advocates, welcoming them to the Bar and reaffirming that ULS House would remain their professional home.
“Today’s ceremony is more than a formal admission; it is a landmark in your professional journey. The trust placed upon you is profound,” Babu said, highlighting the lifelong commitment to service, professionalism, and ethical conduct that enrolment entails.
He reminded the new Advocates that their role requires not only technical expertise but integrity, courage, humility, and strict adherence to ethical standards, including confidentiality, avoidance of conflicts of interest, and faithful service to clients.
Babu urged them to actively uphold public trust, safeguard the reputation of the legal profession, and embody the highest standards of discipline and accountability.
He also encouraged the new members of the Bar to embrace the Radical New Bar ideals championed by ULS and the 4D campaign—Decolonisation, Demilitarisation, Democratisation, and Digital Transformation—aimed at strengthening Uganda’s legal profession and advancing justice.
