PIB-UG Calls for Support Towards Inclusive Marathon to Empower Persons with Disabilities

By Joseph Kiggundu

Persons with Disabilities in Business Uganda (PIB~UG) has made a passionate call for public, corporate, and community support ahead of the “Don’t Leave Anyone Behind” Inclusive Marathon (Disability Run), set to take place on October 12, 2025, at Kitebi Primary School in Kampala.

The event seeks to rally Ugandans behind a cause that blends fitness, advocacy, and empowerment — raising funds to build an Inclusive Entrepreneurship Training Centre that will equip youth and women with disabilities with practical business and vocational skills.

According to PIB~UG, the marathon aims to raise USD 40,000 (about UGX 150 million) to support the construction of this centre, which will provide training and mentorship to at least 250 direct beneficiaries every year.

A Call to Action for an Inclusive Future

Speaking ahead of the launch, Mr. Kigozi Lubwama Kenneth, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee, urged the public and development partners to rally behind the initiative.

“This marathon is more than a race — it’s a movement for inclusion,” Kigozi said. “We are calling upon individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to stand with persons with disabilities by sponsoring, participating, or contributing towards this noble cause.”

He noted that the proposed centre will serve as a hub for entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and financial inclusion, offering persons with disabilities the tools they need to achieve economic independence.

“Every step we take on October 12 brings us closer to a Uganda where disability is not a barrier to opportunity,” Kigozi added.

Promoting Economic Empowerment through Sports

The “Don’t Leave Anyone Behind” Inclusive Marathon is the flagship event under PIB~UG’s Building Bridges to Business Success project, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and Goal 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

Organizers say the marathon will bring together athletes, students, corporate teams, and community members, demonstrating unity and shared responsibility in promoting equality and empowerment.

“This is an opportunity for Uganda to show that inclusion is not just policy — it’s action,” Kigozi emphasized.

Media and Partners Urged to Amplify the Cause

PIB~UG has invited media houses, journalists, and corporate partners to join hands in amplifying the message of inclusion. The media launch of the marathon will also feature the unveiling of the official running kit.

“We need every voice — from the media to the private sector — to help us champion this cause,” Kigozi appealed. “Together, we can create lasting change for persons with disabilities.”
