Paint manufacturer Kansai Plascon Uganda has donated paint worth Shs 65 million to the Tooro Kingdom in a bid to support the renovation of the Royal Palace in Fort Portal ahead of the Omukama’s 30th Coronation Anniversary slated for September 12, 2025.
The contribution was officially handed over by Kansai Plascon Managing Director Santosh Gumte to Tooro Kingdom officials led by Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire and Deputy Prime Minister Henry Basaliza during a ceremony held at the Kingdom headquarters.
Plascon’s donation includes high-quality paint intended for both interior and exterior restoration of the palace, covering a surface area of approximately 8,500 square meters. The company has also committed its technical team to oversee the repainting exercise to ensure the work is professionally executed before the anniversary celebrations.
“This donation is part of our broader Colour Your World campaign, which focuses on enhancing community spaces and preserving Uganda’s cultural heritage,” said Mr. Gumte. “We are proud to partner with the Tooro Kingdom to prepare for this significant milestone in the Kingdom’s history.”
The Omukama of Tooro, His Majesty Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, will mark three decades since ascending the throne, a coronation he underwent at just three years old. The upcoming celebration is expected to attract dignitaries, cultural leaders, and citizens from across the region.
Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Rwomiire expressed gratitude for Plascon’s continued support. “We are deeply thankful to Plascon for this generous gesture. It not only helps us prepare the palace for the upcoming jubilee but also strengthens the partnership between the Kingdom and the corporate community.”
This is not the first time Plascon has collaborated with Tooro Kingdom. In 2023, the company contributed Shs 50 million towards the Kingdom’s Amasaza Cup, a community-focused sports initiative.
The 30th Coronation Anniversary will celebrate the Omukama’s legacy in promoting unity, culture, youth empowerment, and development in the Tooro sub-region. Renovation works at the palace have already commenced and are expected to be completed in time for the festivities.
