Police probe killing of five youth by mob in Mukono


MUKONO. Police are investigating circumstances under which a mob attacked and killed five people in Namanoga Village, Seeta- Namuganga Sub County, Mukono District in the early hours of Friday.


According to police, the incident occurred at around 3:00 AM after a violent confrontation between local residents and a group of youths who had traveled from Kampala to attend a music show at Lions Bar.


Reports indicate that the youths allegedly angered villagers after being accused of using fake currency notes and engaging in pickpocketing during the event. The clash escalated into mob violence, leading to the deaths of five youths and the burning of a commuter taxi they had used, registration number UBD 326X


Police have since recorded statements from survivors and eyewitnesses. The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Kayunga General Referral Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the burnt-out vehicle was secured as part of ongoing investigations.


Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango condemned the violence, stressing that investigations are underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
