Runway prison warder Moses Anguyo, who was arrested in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Saturday morning, has been transferred to Kiboga Central Police Station, the area of jurisdiction where the deadly shooting incident occurred.
Anguyo, whose prison number is No. 13544, allegedly opened fire during a routine inspection at Kiboga Central Prison on February 23, 2026, around 10:00 a.m. He is accused of killing four people: Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine (Deputy Officer in Charge), Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright (third in command), Ms. Ayebare Sarah (wife of the Officer in Charge), and the couple’s young son, who was shot in the stomach and later died at Kiboga Hospital. The Officer in Charge sustained injuries in the attack. Anguyo fled the scene with his service firearm and evaded capture for weeks.
A joint security operation involving Ugandan police and prison officers from Arua District and Vurra apprehended the suspect in Aru Town, DRC. He was initially transferred to Arua Central Police Station before being moved to Kiboga
The Uganda Prisons Service has welcomed the development. In an official press release, Senior Commissioner of Prisons Frank Baine Mayanja, the spokesperson for Cooperation and Corporate Affairs, stated: “The Commissioner General of Prisons congratulates the joint security operation teams that apprehended murder suspect Warder Anguyo Moses in Aru Town, Democratic Republic of Congo. He is currently being held at Kiboga Central Police Station and will be produced in court to answer for his crimes.”
Baine added: “Further updates will be communicated in due course. This serves as a warning to anyone intending to commit crime.”
The arrest followed a Shs10 million bounty announced earlier for information leading to Anguyo’s capture. Authorities have recovered the firearm and commended cross-border cooperation between Ugandan and DRC security teams.
Investigations into the motive, preliminarily linked to internal grievances, continue. The Prisons Service has extended condolences to the bereaved families.
The suspect is expected to face murder charges in court soon.
