Fincom Technologies, the company behind the SchoolPay education fintech platform, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Office of the Supreme Mufti under Kawempe Twale(Kawempe Muslim County/Division) .
The move aims at accelerating digital transformation across Muslim-founded and Muslim-managed schools in Uganda.
The agreement was officially signed at Kawempe Mbogo Mosque, marking what both parties described as a significant step toward improving efficiency, transparency and financial accountability within faith-based educational institutions.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Charity Atukwatsa Mutagamba, the Chief Executive Officer of Fincom Technologies, said the partnership will support the digitisation of schools under Kawempe Twale, with plans to replicate the model in other regions.
“We are partnering with Kawempe Twale to accelerate the digitisation of Muslim-founded and Muslim-managed schools within the Twale. Through our SchoolPay system, we have promoted accountability and transparency in schools, and this partnership will enable us to expand those benefits further,” Mutagamba said.
SchoolPay currently serves 12,000 schools on its platform, with the company targeting further growth through collaborations with educational and religious associations.
Under the partnership, schools affiliated with Kawempe Twale will gain access to digital payment solutions that allow parents to pay tuition and other school-related fees remotely, eliminating the need to physically deliver cash to schools.
The platform also includes a pocket money solution, enabling parents to send funds directly to a student’s card for controlled spending at school canteens. This initiative is designed to reduce cash handling, minimise risks of theft among students and improve financial oversight.
For schools, the shift to digital payments is expected to address challenges associated with handling physical cash, including loss, theft and limited record-keeping.
Speaking during the function, Sheikh Muzamiru Mugulusi, the head of the Kawempe Twale (Kawempe Muslim County/Division) hailed Fincom Tehcnologies for accepting to partner with them.
He said such partnership benefit the community.
Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Elias Nalukoola said the partnership will go a long way in improving education among Muslim schools.
“If you want to improve society, you start with fighting illiteracy. This partnership is one way of promoting literacy among the Muslim community because it will make it convenient for parents to pay school fees for their children as well as other benefits,” Nalukoola said.
