Sembabule: Traders, motorists intercepted by robbers , all valuables stolen

SEMBABULE.Police in Sembabule District are investigating circumstances in which traders and locals that were heading to Sembabule Town were intercepted by unknown armed people and robbed of their valuables.

The incident occurred Tuesday morning at Mitima swamp along Ntuusi- Sembabule Road when unidentified armed men intercepted the road users and tied them on ropes and beat them up before robbing them.

According to the victims, the armed men asked them to surrender their money, keys for vehicle and other valuables before fleeing the area.

Locals claim that in the process the thieves also stole some motorcycles which they used to flee the scene .

“They removed us from the vehicle in which we were travelling and they ordered us to lay on the ground and ordered us to handover everything we had, they blocked the road for some time as they robbed whoever was coming and they left us their stranded since they made away with the eyes of our car” John Mukasa one of the victims said.

Southern Regional police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye has confirmed the incident saying that police investigations into the incident have kicked off.

He has however asked residents that have information about the robbery and the whereabouts of the suspects involved in the robbery to help police so that they can be brought to book.

“The hunt for those that were involved in the said robbery has kicked off, though police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the incident, we call upon the public and anyone that could be having information that can help us in the investigation to volunteer it to police. ” he added.
