Kamuli District Chairperson Mr Maxwell Kuwembula is confirmed to have died a motor crash along the Mukono -Kayunga Road.
The Thursday crash happened near the Ministry of Water and Environment offices in Nakifuma, opposite Nakifuma Trust Medical Center, according to Patrick Onyango, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Kuwembula was driving a white Toyota Hilux Double Cabin Registration Number UG 699M ,belonging the district health department , from Kampala to Kamuli when his ill-fated vehicle rammed into a stationary Hacman truck Registration Number UBR 835K.
The driver of the truck disappeared from the scene immediately after the tragedy .
According to Onyango , Kuwembula died on spot after his body got trapped inside the wreckage. Police officers from Naggalama Police Division responded to the crash promptly. By the time of his demise, Kuwembula was seeking reelection as district chairperson and had already pinned posters across the district .
“The stationary truck was parked along the roadside at the time of the accident . Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crash,” Onyango said.
He asked the public to help police locate the driver of the stationary truck who is currently on the run . Government has in the past banned stationary trucks which remain along highways for longer hours and ordered police to ensure that they are removed in the quickest time possible to avert road carnage .
