Shock as nun dies in boda- boda crash on Koboko-Yumbe Road

YUMBE.A tragic road crash that occurred along the Koboko-Yumbe Road on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a 57-year-old nun.

The deceased Sister Lilly Driciru was attached to Lodonga Cathedral Bazirika Catholic Parish.

According to police reports, Sister Driciru was a passenger on a motorcycle that was knocked down by a Mazda vehicle at Kuru Trading Centre.

The police blamed the accident on reckless driving by the vehicle driver identified as Richard Newton, 35.

Collins Asea, North West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson, said, “The motorcycle passenger sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.”

He said the injured motorcycle rider, Mambo Hillary, 25, is receiving treatment at Kuru Regional Referral Hospital.

The deceased’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary pending postmortem examination.

“Police are investigating the incident, with both vehicles involved parked at Yumbe Police Station. The driver was issued with a 94 form and PF 48A & B,” Mr Asea said.

The police report stated that both the motor vehicle driver and the motorcycle rider were traveling in the same direction from Koboko towards Yumbe when the accident occurred.

The police have appealed for witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.

The case is being handled by Yumbe Police Station, reference number TSD 07/08/11/2025 TAR 42/2025.
