MOYO.Independent candidate for Moyo West County, Dr. Charles Lagu, has said he has “fully forgiven” those who allegedly orchestrated the criminal charges that kept him entangled in court for six years.
Speaking in an interview on Friday afternoon—just a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) formally withdrew all charges—Dr. Lagu described the ruling as a major turning point in his personal and political journey.
“These six years have not been easy. I have lost more than ten job opportunities because of this case,” he said. “But I hold no grudge. I forgive everyone who falsely accused me. My focus now is on rebuilding trust and serving the people of Moyo West County.”
A veterinarian and former Executive Director of the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC & DB), Dr. Lagu said the end of the case now allows him to dedicate his full attention to his 2026 parliamentary campaign.
He outlined key priorities for the constituency, promising practical, people-centered leadership.
“My plan is clear,” he said. “I want to improve our road network, strengthen health facilities, revive agricultural productivity, and attract investment that creates jobs for our youth.”
He emphasized unity, transparency, and equitable service delivery as pillars of his political agenda.
“We must unite our people and push for equitable development,” he added. “Every village deserves clean water, better schools, and functioning health centres. That is the Moyo West I want to build.”
For years, the high-profile charges—ranging from abuse of office to conspiracy to defraud—were used by opponents to question his integrity and suitability for public office. With the case now fully dismissed, his supporters say the decision restores his credibility and frees him to campaign without legal distractions.
“This decision restores my dignity,” Dr. Lagu concluded. “I am ready to meet the voters with a clean mind and a clear mission for 2026.”
Political analysts in Moyo District observe that many of the allegations against Dr. Lagu stemmed from internal conflicts within the agricultural sector, particularly disputes over management of government farms, livestock transfers, and land allocation.
