KAMPALA.
The Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) has appointment Hajji Issa Ssekitto as the new association acting chairman for a full year.
Ssekitto ,who also serves as KACITA spokesperson replaces Mr Thadeus Musoke Nagenda, who has ventured into elective politics after declaring his bid for the chairmanship of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurship League.
A statement released by KACITA acting secretary general, Timothy Baguma, indicated that “the executive board wishes to formally announce the appointment of Ssekitto as the substantive acting chairman of the association with immediate effect.
The decision was reached during an extra-ordinary board meeting convened on Monday, August 4, 2024. The board unanimously resolved to appoint Hajji Ssekitto to this role in order to provide stable leadership and safeguard the interests of both the association and the wider business community.”
The statement indicated that Hajji Ssekitto will serve in this capacity for one year as the association undergoes a transitional period aimed at strengthening its governance structures and operational continuity.
“The executive board extends its sincere appreciation to Mr Musoke, the former acting chairman, for his outstanding service to KACITA-Uganda and the entire business community. Mr Musoke has now embarked on his political journey, and in recognition of his will, the board found it necessary to appoint new leadership.
This move will enable Mr Musoke to fully engage in politics as KACITA-Uganda is a non-political organisation and solely committed to addressing the issues affecting the business community in Uganda,” Baguma said.
The statement also indicated that “the executive board call upon all members, partners and stakeholders to extend their full support and cooperation to Hajji Ssekitto as he steers the association through this important phase.”
On August 17, 2021, Mr Musoke was appointed acting KACITA chairman following the death of Everest Kayondo in June the same year. Kayondo, who had led the association for close to 16 years, succumbed to COVID-19.
Mr Musoke was appointed acting chairman during an extraordinary meeting held on August 11, 2021, by the board and other stakeholders.
At the time of his appointment, Mr Musoke had served as the association’s secretary general for four years and was also a former aspirant for the Mukono North parliamentary seat in the 2021 general elections.
