ENTEBBE , Uganda – The State House on Friday issued a list of newly appointed Judicial officers from Supreme to High Court. This came a few hours after Judicial Service Commission has distanced itself from the leaked list containing names of similar individuals apart from one who was missing on the one of State House.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Article 142(1) &(2) of the 1995 Constitution, His Excellency the President, Gen (rtd)Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has made the following new appointments to the judiciary.” Reads statement from State House of Uganda dated 7th February 2025.
The Principal Judge Dr. Flavian Zeija was appointed to the position of Chief Justice to succeed Richard Buteera who will be retiring in April this year. Justice Muzamir Mutangula Kibeedi from the Court of Appeal was promoted to Court of Appeal.
Justices;Ssekaana Musa, Hon. Lady Justice Sabiiti Cornelia Kakooza, Stella Alibateese, Hon. Lady Justice Florence Nakacwa, Hon. Byaruhanga Jesse Rugyema, Musisi John Mike, Hon. Lady Justice Ketra Kitarisibwa Katunguka and Hon. Lady Justice Nambayo Esta from High Court , were all promoted to Court of Appeal.
Chief Registrar Sarah Langa Siu was promoted to Acting Judge of High Court. 21 others were also promoted to the rank of Acting High Court judge.All the appointed individuals are expected to appear before Parliament next week for vetting.
