State introduces fresh charges against NUP’s Mufumbiro


National Unity Platform (NUP) deputy spokesperson and Nakawa East MP aspirant Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro appeared before Nakawa Magistrates Court , where State introduced fresh charges that may keep him behind bars much longer .


According to the State Mufumbiro incited National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters to commit acts of violence against security officers.
Mufumbiro, contesting on the NUP ticket, is already on remand at Luzira Prison over separate charges related to military-style training.


At Nakawa Court on Wednesday morning , Grade One Magistrate Frank Nahamya said Mufumbiro pleaded not guilty to one count of incitement. Mufumbiro was arrested last month and has been on remand since then ,but now it looks like his days behind the bars will continue for much longer even as nominations for the MP seat end Thursday , October 23.


Prosecutors allege that on September 4, 2025, in Kampala, he urged NUP supporters to target security personnel.

NUP leadership insists all the charges preferred against their members are trumped up and aimed at weaken their resilience to fight for liberation of Uganda from the four –decade one party rule under President Museveni .
Magistrate Nahamya remanded him until November 6, 2025, pending completion of police investigations.
