KAMPALA — Uganda’s real estate fraternity has recognised business magnate Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia with a Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his decades-long contribution to the country’s housing and property development landscape. The accolade was presented at the National Property Awards held at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, in a ceremony that brought together government officials, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.

Dr. Edwin Musiime, Chairperson of the Uganda Homeowners Association, presented the award, praising Sudhir’s impact in expanding access to quality housing while driving broader economic development. “His influence extends beyond bricks and mortar—he has invested in education, healthcare, and recreation, raising living standards for countless Ugandans,” Musiime said.

Through Meera Investments and the Ruparelia Group, Sudhir has amassed one of the country’s largest property portfolios, behind iconic projects such as Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kabira Country Club, Kingdom Kampala, Pearl Tower, and the One-10 Apartments in Kololo. His business empire also spans finance, hospitality, agriculture, and education, making him one of Uganda’s most prominent entrepreneurs.

Sudhir’s journey began modestly in the United Kingdom, where he saved $25,000 before returning home in 1985. Starting with a beer distribution business in Kampala, he later transitioned into property development—reshaping Kampala’s skyline and influencing the direction of Uganda’s real estate sector.

At the event, Lands and Housing Minister Hon. Judith Nabakooba emphasized the urgency of closing Uganda’s housing deficit, currently estimated at seven million units, and called for stronger collaboration between the state and private developers. Her remarks were echoed by AREA Uganda Board Director Mugabi Lazarus, who urged households to keep housing costs sustainable and highlighted the role of sound government policy in tackling the deficit.

Sudhir’s recognition highlights not only his achievements in real estate but also his wider contributions to job creation, education, and social infrastructure, solidifying his place among the most influential figures in Uganda’s development journey.
