Sudhir’s son Rajiv dies in road crash at Busabala


KAMPALA.

The business community and motor sport fraternities in Uganda are mourning the sadden passing of businessman Rajiv Ruparelia .

Rajiv,35 is the son of Ugandan property magnet and investor Sudhir Ruparelia suddenly died in a car crash at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights along the Southern Bypass connecting to Entebbe Expressway in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.


According to Mr Michael Kananura, the spokesperson of the Traffic Police , the ill-fated Nissan GTR motor vehicle with Registration Number UAT 638L which Rajiv was driving hit temporary pavements that were installed at the roundabout section of the flyover and lost control following the car to overturn and later caught fire

.
Mr Kananura said Rajiv was driving from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo when the crash happened.
“The car then overturned and caught fire, resulting in the instant death of the driver, Mr Rajiv Ruparelia. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined; however, investigations are underway, and we will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available,” Mr Kananura said.


A couple of days ago, motorists had complained about lack of signage towards the concrete barriers placed along the section of the Expressway around Busabala junction .


Rajiv, a celebrated rally car driver has been the managing director of the Ruparielia Group, one of East Africa’s largest multisectoral multinationals with business interests in real estate, insurance, education, broadcasting, floriculture and hotels and resorts sectors, among others.

By the time of his death , Rajiv was currently supervising construction of a 100 million US Dollars (about Shs355 billion) resort and convention centre on Lake Victoria shores at Kitubulu at a site formerly occupied by Ssese Gateway Beach.
