At least three people have been confirmed dead and several others injured following a road crash involving a bus operated by Tausi Bus Company and a passenger taxi along the highway linking Mbarara and Bushenyi District.
According to police in the Greater Bushenyi region, the accident happened in the Katojjo area when a Toyota Noah taxi traveling from Ishaka toward Mbarara reportedly moved out of its lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Tausi bus.
Police spokesperson Apollo Tayebwa confirmed that three occupants of the taxi died at the scene. Several other passengers sustained injuries during the crash.
Emergency teams transported the injured victims to Kabwohe Health Centre IV for medical treatment. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision and have urged motorists to remain cautious and adhere to traffic rules to reduce road accidents.
Authorities also encouraged anyone with relatives who may have been traveling along the route to check with local health facilities or police for information.
