Thunderbirds and Walukuba Barbarians Crowned Champions at 2025 Kabaka Coronation 7s

The 2025 Kabaka Coronation 7s tournament kicked off the Nile Special Uganda Rugby Sevens Series in style, with Thunderbirds (women) and Walukuba Barbarians (men) emerging as the first Cup Finals winners at Kyadondo Rugby Club and Abel Dhaira Memorial Grounds.

In a thrilling display of rugby, the finals saw each venue celebrate one victory, showcasing the competitive spirit of Uganda’s rugby scene.

The Thunderbirds delivered a commanding performance, shutting out Walukuba Titans 15-0 to defend their home turf at Kyadondo with a blend of power and experience.

Meanwhile, Walukuba Barbarians proved their mettle at Abel Dhaira, overpowering Heathens 17-5 in a decisive victory that reaffirmed their earlier pool-stage win was no fluke.Both championship teams were awarded a UGX 5 million cash prize, courtesy of the event’s ticketing partner, MTN MoMo.

Runners-up Walukuba Titans and Heathens claimed silver medals, each pocketing UGX 3 million. The bronze medals, accompanied by a UGX 1 million cash prize, went to Avengers (women) and Buffaloes (men), who showcased resilience in their third-place finishes.

In the Challenge Cup, Rams continued their impressive form, securing the title and maintaining their status as the ninth-ranked team in the series.

The Kabaka Coronation 7s marked a high-energy start to the 2025 Nile Special Uganda Rugby Sevens Series, with fans treated to electrifying performances across both venues.

The action now shifts to the next stop of the series, set for August 9-10 at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu City, where teams will battle for supremacy in what promises to be another exhilarating weekend of rugby.
